16.10.2019. The topic of air quality was discussed at the Round Table held today in Bol on Brač island, as part of the Eleventh National Scientific and Professional Conference with international participation entitled “AIR PROTECTION 2019”. The project AIRQ – Expansion and Modernisation of the National Network for Continuous Air Quality Monitoring was presented, and it is implemented by the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service in cooperation with the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health.
The participants in the Round Table included Assistant Minister, Igor Čižmek, from the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Cleo Kosanović, PhD, the head of AIRQ project from the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service, project coordinator for the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health Gordana Pehnec, Vladimir Jelavić, PhD, the director of the Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Departmentat Ekonerg, and Nirvana Franković Mihelj, PhD, project manager from the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.
AIRQ project, which is financed from the European Regional Development Fund (with 85%) and by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (15%), with the overall value amounting to HRK 125,123,500.00, will promote significant developments and improvement of air quality for all Croatian citizens, support the implementation of the legislative framework for air quality and environmental protection, and provide the conditions for construction of 5 new continuous air quality monitoring stations and upgrading of the 19 existing ones. In addition, an operational model for the evaluation of ground-level pollutant concentrations will be developed for the areas in Croatia where currently no measurements are carried out.
The Eleventh National Scientific and Professional Conference with international participation “AIR PROTECTION 2019” took place in the period 15 – 19 October 2019, in the organisation of the Croatian Air Pollution Prevention Association in cooperation with the Institute For Medical Research and Occupational Health, the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service, and the European Federation of Clean Air and Environmental Protection Associations (EFCA). The topics discussed at the conference included: air quality management, atmospheric emissions of pollutants, ambient air pollution – emissions, development and testing of measuring methods, estimate of exposure to pollutants in the air and health impacts, air protection in physical planning, construction and environmental protection, and EFCA session “Air pollution and climate: Ultrafineparticles”.
