The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund secured 20 out of the total of 51 million kunas for the works on energy renovation of the hospital in Šibenik. 8.400 square meters of the façade were renovated, 2.120 square meters of the flat roof, 5.600 square meters of thermal insulation, 2.830 square meters of windows and doors, 5.000 of lighting fixtures, the boiler room was completely reconstructed, and the central AC was installed in the polyclinic building. 13% of energy will be produced from RES, and with the transition to natural gas, the Šibenik hospital has become the first public building in Šibenik to use this energy generating product.
Director of the Fund Dubravko Ponoš pointed out that the hospital was renovated according to the ESCO model under which the Fund participated with 40 percent, while 60 percent was provided by the private partner, in this case the company Rudan that will remunerate its share over a period of 14 years from a part of the achieved savings. “According to their new energy characteristics, the objects renovated in this manner can be categorised as the example of “best practice”, and they can be promoted not only locally but as a quality Croatian export product”, said Ponoš.
Head of Šibenik-Knin County Goran Pauk is satisfied with the fact that the project was completed in a very short period of time. “Our healthcare system suffers from many financial difficulties, and this project should, to a degree, have an impact on reducing the costs and easing the financial problems burdening our healthcare system”, said head of County Pauk.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction and Physical Planning Predrag Štromar said that according to this model energy renovation of public buildings was also co-financed from EU funds. “So far we have made the decisions concerning the renovation of more than a thousand public buildings, including kindergartens, schools, universities, research institutions, and hospitals. In this way we save money in the public sector that will resulting in the savings of more than 50%, so this money can be invested elsewhere “, said Štromar adding that such projects represent a great opportunity for the Croatian construction sector.
The representative of the Contractor Gracijano Rudan said that 25 Croatian companies participated in the project, as well as 250 workers from different professions. After the renovation, the cost of energy consumption will be reduced from the current HRK7.7 million/year to 4.35 million.
“Last year we marked the 210th anniversary of the hospital, and this particular location is 150 years old, so this fact alone testifies to the importance of this renovation”, concluded hospital administrator Sanja Jakelić, MD, during the ceremony of acceptance of works on the hospital.
