Cooperation of Rovinj and the Fund

23.02.2021.

Marko Paliaga, the mayor of Rovinj, and Siniša Kukić, the director of the Fund, and their colleagues held an official meeting at the Fund discussing current joint projects, one of which is remediation of landfill Lokva Vidotto, and the supply of more than 4000 containers for separate waste collection.

Marko Paliaga, the mayor of Rovinj, and Siniša Kukić, the director of the Fund, and their colleagues held an official meeting held at the Fund between discussing current joint projects.
Mayor Paliaga said that the project of remediation of landfill Lokva Vidotto worth around HRK 6 million had been completed. 85% of the project was financed from the EU Cohesion Fund, while the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund provided 10% of resources.

Director of the Fund Siniša Kukić added that the Fund had supplied to Rovinj around 4140 containers for separate waste collection, which would contribute even more to the rate of waste separation in households.
“I am pleased by the fact that the rate of waste separation in Rovinj is slightly over 40 percent. There is space for improvement, and it is important to continue educating the citizens, but we are all aware that this is a process which takes time,” said Paliaga. He pointed out that Istria and Primorje-Gorski Kotar Counties were the only ones to have built waste management centres, thus complying with the European directive.
He thanked the Fund for granting HRK 5.6 million to Istria County, more precisely WMC Kaštijun, which will be used to co-finance part of the costs of disposal of RDF. He also added that the RDF issue would have to be systematically addressed in the future.

The mayor of Rovinj invited the Fund and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development to an official meeting in Istria where they would present their achievements in waste management, and propose some solutions aimed at further improvement of the functioning of the entire system.
