Cooperation of the Fund and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service

23.12.2020.

The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service will take part in the action of removing end-of-life vehicles on the islands, in national parks and nature parks, to be implemented by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund next year.

To this end, the Fund launched a Public Call to which the units of local self-government with administrative jurisdiction over the islands, national parks, and nature parks could apply, and so far they have reported around 200 discarded vehicles that have been dumped in the environment.

“A number of derelict vehicles is located in inaccessible areas, and that is precisely the reason why we need help from HGSS,” said Siniša Kukić, the director of the Fund, upon singing the cooperation agreement. He added that since 2006 the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund has been in charge of organising the system for the disposal of end-of-life vehicles, and to-date around 380 000 derelict vehicles have been collected and forwarded to the treatment plants. “Sadly, there are irresponsible individuals who improperly dump old vehicles, and during this action we will clear the locations where these cars were discarded. In addition, our goals is to raise public awareness and to send a strong message that derelict vehicles must not be discarded in the environment,” said director Kukić.

“We are glad that the Fund decided to start again such actions of clearing the environment from car wrecks. When it was necessary, HGSS took part in other projects of the Fund dealing with clean-ups and remediation of inaccessible areas; for example, the remediation action in Omiš when the rocks fell on the road, so I’m positive that in the future we will continue with successful cooperation, said Head of HGSS Josip Granić.
