21.05.2020.

To mark this occasion, the preliminary project conference was held today, with participation of the head of Varaždin County, Radimir Čačić, hospital administrator Denis Kovačić, as well as the deputy director of the Fund, Alenka Košiša Čičin-Šain.

Reconstruction is planned for five hospital wings, a cluster of buildings: Terme, Konstantinov dom, Hidroterapija Terme, Konstantinova kupelj and Lovrina kupelj. The overall surface area of hospital premises is 51 000 square meters, with 450 rooms. The renovation project envisages extensive construction and craftsman works, engineering and electrical works. The envelope of the building will be renovated, exterior windows and doors will be replaced, highly energy efficient interior LED lighting will be installed, as well as an integrated solar power plant, and the new lift.

Head of the county Čačić reminded that this project is part of the comprehensive renovation of the Special Hospital in Varaždinske Toplice, where EU projects worth almost 240 million kunas were being implemented, of which HRK 130 million was for energy renovation projects. “We are expecting a reduction in the primary energy consumption by 49.79% per year of thermal energy from local sources, which will enable the reduction of CO2 emissions by 50.20%,” concluded Čačić, adding that all EU projects implemented in Varaždin County amounted to HRK 823.8 million.

Alenka Košiša Čičin-Šain, the deputy director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, addressed the participants saying that Varaždin County was spearheading the withdrawal of resources from EU funds. “Energy renovation of the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation is the largest public building energy renovation project in Croatia, so I can confidently say that Varaždin County is very keenly making use of all EU financing options. I also have to say that Varaždin County is an excellent partn1 er to the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund as Intermediate Body level 2 for all of these energy-related projects. We have a proactive and constructive cooperation, and I’m assured it will continue in the future,” said deputy director Košiša Čičin-Šain.
