23.07.2018.

The Grant Agreement for the projects financed from the Cohesion Fund in the financial perspective 2014 – 2020 was signed by the minister of environment and energy Tomislav Ćorić, director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund Dubravko Ponoš, and director of the Zagreb Waste Management Centre Igor Zgomba, while the Contract on national co-financing of project implementation and preparation of study and design documents was signed by the secretary of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, Andrea Bartolić, and Igor Zgomba.

The Agreement provides for HRK 25.5 million, i.e. 85% of EU grant for the preparation of the required documentation so that the project of construction of WMC Zagreb could apply for EU co-financing.

“Together with the Grant Agreement, we have signed the Contract for co-financing, whereby we have secured capital assistance for this stage of the project, in the amount of 1.5 million kuna. The this system is targeted at waste prevention, waste collection and utilisation, and so far within this waste collection scheme more than 185 thousand containers for the City of Zagreb and the County have been provided, worth 112 million kuna”, said director of the Fund Ponoš.

The provided funding will be used to co-finance the preparation of: the feasibility study with the cost and benefit analysis, the WMC environmental impact assessment, documentation required to obtain the location permit for WMC, environmental protection studies for the transfer stations, documentation required to obtain the location and building permits for the transfer stations, project application for EU funding, documentation on the procurement of works, services and equipment for the WMC and transfer stations. Eligible costs also include the costs of project management and administration.

“Waste management centres, especially in Zagreb considering the scope of the area, represent the last, and probably the most important link in developing the circular economy chain”, said minister Tomislav Ćorić. He added that the construction of the waste management infrastructure included a number of recycling yards, information and education activities, and the public call for the expression of interest for the procurement of containers.

“In January this year, the City of Zagreb, Zagreb County and the Zagreb Waste Management Centre signed the cooperation agreement for the construction of this Centre. Today’s signing marks a new step that will undoubtedly contribute to acceleration and fulfilment of obligations arising from the Act on Sustainable Waste Management”, said director of WMC Zagreb, Igor Zgomba.

The mayor Milan Bandić expressed his pleasure with today’s signing of the contracts in the City Hall and with good cooperation between the line ministry and the City of Zagreb.
