HRK 315 million for the purchase of containers for separate waste collection

14.02.2019.

At its session today, the Government of the Republic of Croatia approved the decision of the Management Board of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund for concluding the grant agreement for a little over HRK315 million from EU funds for co-financing the purchase of containers for separate collection of municipal waste. EU resources will provide 85 percent of the required funding, while the remaining 15 percent will be financed by the units of local self-government.

407 municipalities and towns expressed interest in containers, and the Fund will implement an integrated procurement procedure for 1.23 million of containers. These include containers for waste paper, glass, plastics, and bio-waste.

After the Government adopted the decision, the Grant Agreement was signed between the Fund, Intermediate Body level 2, and the Ministry of Environment and Energy. Last year the Ministry published a restricted Call for Proposals for the procurement of containers for separate collection of waste under the Operational Programme “Competitiveness and Cohesion  2014 – 2020“, to which the Fund was the only eligible applicant. With the aim of preparing the project proposal, the Fund published the Public Call aimed at the units of local self-government for the expression of interest for the purchase of containers.

After the towns and municipalities submitted the number and types of required containers, the Fund started to prepare and compile the documentation for an integrated procurement procedure. After public consultations and completing the entire prescribed procedure, on 14 February 2019 the Fund sent tender documents for publication in the Electronic Public Procurement Classifieds.

“The procurement of containers will help round off the utility infrastructure and establishing an efficient waste management system. However, at the same time it is necessary to continue educating the citizens, as well as all other stakeholders included in this system”, said Dubravko Ponoš, Director of the Fund.
