Meeting on waste disposal in Otočac held at the Fund

23.02.2021.

For the purpose of increasing capacity efficiency of the Podum landfill to receive waste until the construction of the waste management centre in Karlovac County, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund granted HRK 220 thousand to the town of Otočac for drawing up the amendments to the project documents.

Apart from the waste from Otočac, the Podum landfill receives the waste from Lika municipalities Brinje, Plitvička jezera, Vrhovine and Donji Lapac because the landfills in these areas were closed in accordance with the Decision on the order and dynamic of waste landfill closure in the Republic of Croatia.

Upon the signing of the contract on co-financing of project documentation, Stjepan Kostelac, the mayor of Otočac, expressed his satisfaction since that would enable the preconditions on the landfill to be created to build an intermediate cell with a 40 thousand cubic meter capacity.

“In line with the instruction of the State Inspectorate, our landfill receives not only the waste from the municipalities in Lika-Senj County, but also part of the waste from Makarska and Samobor because their landfills have been remediated and closed and their waste management centres have yet to be built,” said mayor Kostelac, adding that Otočac had provided adequate infrastructure through its utility company so the citizens can separate waste at source in the greatest extent possible. He also pointed out that the containers for separate waste collection that will be supplied by the Fund in the near future will be of great help.
