The meeting to mark the completion of remediation works was attended by the director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, Dubravko Ponoš, along with his colleagues – head of the Environmental Protection Sector Aleksandra Čilić and head of the Public Relations Department Lidija Tošić, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Darko Nekić, as well as the participants in the project – companies: Maxicon, Geotehnika, Pangeo project, and UOIG Nikodem Dizdar, with the directors of the town institutions and companies, and officials and clerks from the Town of Senj.
During the visit to the construction site, the mayor of Senj Sanjin Rukavina commented on the remediation: “The works on the landfill lasted from October 2016 until 30 June 2018, and the recently obtained use permit allows the use of the first and the second part of the infrastructure”, and he also mentioned the value of the project “the total value of the executed works amounts to 17.3 million kuna, of which the Fund financed around 13.7 million, while Senj participated with around 3.6 million kuna”. The mayor also underlined the efforts and work put in by the officials at the city government and employees from the Institute for the Development of the Town of Senj in the complex application procedures.
Director of the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund Dubravko Ponoš stated that the “Remediation of the landfill Sveti Juraj was an exceptionally demanding and challenging project since the landfill is situated within the borders of the nature park, however the town of Senj was persistent in resolving the issues, and now finally they have the landfill that has been remediated in compliance with all environmental standards.” He also added that Senj showed the vision and the capacity to successfully withdraw the funds.
All of this, said Mr. Ponoš, was part of establishing systematic waste management, in which Senj was highly successful. In conclusion, he pointed out that the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund will keep an eye of and supporting the Town of Senj in its future endeavours.
