The Fund will provide HRK 10 million to repair damage caused by earthquake

30.12.2020.

At its session today, the Croatian Government adopted a conclusion whereby the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund will provide HRK 10 million to repair the damage caused by the earthquakes that struck on 28 and 29 December 2020.

In the explanation of the proposal by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Minister Tomislav Ćorić emphasised that the situation faced by the citizens in the areas that were hit the hardest was extremely difficult. Due to this, all state assistance through different implementing bodies, one of which is the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, will be directed to remedying immediate damage, so that later on these areas could be rebuilt. For a start, the Fund will provide 10 million kunas to remedy the damage in the areas struck by the earthquake.

As emergency help for mitigating and remedying the consequences of the earthquakes, the Croatian Government transferred to the three counties the total of HRK 120m – HRK100m to the hardest-hit Sisak-Moslavina County, and HRK10m to Zagreb and Karlovac Counties respectively. At today’s session it was mentioned that this was just the first step, and that Croatia was counting on resources from the EU funds, and many international financial institutions expressed their willingness to offer assistance

“This is a chance for Croatia to show its big heart in solidarity, and we can already seen it. Special thanks goes out to the people who are helping. We would like to recommend to organise this through the civil protection services and the Croatian Red Cross, so that the smallest villages and settlements get the help they need,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
